PSYCHEDELICS: Sacred Medicines & Benefits

From Oct 10 to 23, 2019 I attended a free Online Virtual Conference hosted by Beth Weinstein of New York. Over the period of 13 days I listened to and made notes while Beth talked with 25 experts in the fields of psychedelics, entrepreneurship, personal development and spiritualism. It was time well spent and gave me a much wider perspective of what is presently happening in the field of Psychology in terms of using individual access to their different levels of Consciousness for the purpose of Better Mental/Physical Health; Personal Improvement/Entrepreneurship; and Spiritual Development.

Both Beth and the speakers emphasized the education of participants in PREPARATION for; EXPERIENCING under trained coaches; and the INTEGRATION of the experience. Of the 25 speakers I was able to give 5 out of 5 for nine of the presentations and found Beth’s interview of Rick Doblin (Founder of MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies – founded 1986) most interesting.

This Online Conference hosted by Beth was so motivational for me, that I spent at least 20 hours listening to the interviews and in the end paid $27 US to have permanent access to the conference material. You can purchase access to all 25 interviews here  https://psychedelicsandpurpose.com/thank-you-vip/  for $47 US.

For a number of years I have been trying to develop the skill of Lucid Dreaming in order to access and benefit from knowledge and experiences that are buried in my subconscious mind. I have taken a number of courses and read many articles/books on the subject with limited success. Robert Waggoner is my favorite expert on lucid dreaming, but he has a natural skill plus spent a lifetime of learning, to develop his present skill level.

At age 76, I continue to attend Meet-Ups of a Lucid Dreaming Group in Edmonton, and search for other more effective methods of accessing and gaining the skills to utilize what resides in my unconscious.

The experience has also motivated me to sign up for the 9TH ANNUAL SPIRIT PLANT MEDICINE CONFERENCE at UBC – Vancouver, BC on Nov. 1, 2 & 3, 2019. <https://spiritplantmedicine.com/>. General Admission cost is $288 CAN, but live stream access is available for $97 CAN. I paid $144 for live stream access pus one year membership which includes access to their video archives and past live streams for 8 years. I am attempting to arrange for a group viewing of the conference in Edmonton on Nov. 1 to 3. If you are interested please contact me at humbke@hotmail.com.

According to my knowledge, the University of British Columbia is more advanced than the University of Alberta in the research and experience with psychedelics than the University of Alberta, my Alma Mater. I hope to be a participant in efforts to educate anyone in Edmonton who is interested the benefits of utilizing plant medicines for improved mental health.

Hey Roger such a great article. I like what you said that modern medicine is realising the power of plant medicines to benefit peoples psychological well being. There is a big shift happening in psychology and especially in the treatment of psychological disorders. There was study recently published about severe depression and psilocybin. They found that 80% of participants after one dose where remained positive 6 months later. I think this is definitely on the Forefront of psychology and human consciousness. What amazes me, is that aboriginals have been using plasma medicines specific purpose for thousands of years. Thanks for Sharing.

Hi Roger, thanks for this great post! I personally am a pharmacist, and feel this writing about Sacred Medicine is very rare. Why? Because sacred.

I know exactly that a type of plant that can be used as medicine is very difficult. Need a lot of research to be able to draw the conclusion that a type of plant will be able to have an effect on humans. Moreover, talking about psychedelics, the opportunity to be able to be drugs that have effects like this, will be even more difficult. However, if it is proven to have an effect.I believe shifting from synthesis to natural products will occur even greater. Thus, side effects to humans can be more minimal.

      Hi S.J.,

Thanks for the reply. My use of plants had enabled me to think before I respond and that has resulted in better personal relationships.

I am no authority on the use of plants for medical reasons but your post has me thinking that plant-based medicines and herbal remedies are becoming more at the forefront year after year in spite of the big drug companies’ objections.

Why?  Because people are finding out that these now alternative treatments (which used to be quite normal a couple of hundred years ago), actually work.  I mean, after all, God put all these plants here for us to use.  Humans didn’t know how they worked thousands of years ago they just knew they did.

Seems to me that I heard just the other day that scientists have found that LSD has benefits when used correctly? I could be wrong so, please correct me if I am.

I’m happy to see that people are getting back to the earth.  As good as some man-made drugs are I think there is a lot of room for the natural methods as well.

      Hi Wayne,

Great to hear from you. I couldn’t agree with you more. Any plant, if you take too much of it, will cause you health problems. At ;east half of the spices found in the average home are lethal if consumed in enough quantity.

In 1968 LSD was declared illegal in the US and Canada, at a time when research at Universities and Medical Institutions were showing very promising positive results for certain health problems.

Stanislav Grof MD is a psychiatrist of more than 50 years of research of non-ordinary states of consciousness (including 17 years researching LSD). He is still active and I highly recommend his book “LSD – Doorway to the Numinous” 1975, 2009 plus his YouTube videos.

All the best in your research.

      Best Regards,

      Hi Eva,

Great to find another person who believes we should support the doctor who resides in our very own mind. I am sure our internal mind  know what is going on in every part of our body. Now to figure out how to communicate with that doctor and do as he requests.

I couldn’t find you on WA. I would like to connect with you.
